Creative Birthday Cocktails Worth Celebrating

So, it’s your birthday, and you’ve got some celebrating to do. Or you want to help that special someone celebrate turning a year older with creative birthday cocktails. How do you define what’s creative vs. what’s overdone and way too boring? That’s easy. Head over to Lazy Point to check out their new cocktail menu and celebrate in style!

“Lazy Point has a really cool, fun, laid-back beach vibe,” says our head of bar programming, Jeremy Strawn. “So, I wanted all of the cocktails to be fresh, vibrant, and also unique.”

Unique is right. At Lazy Point, we’ve taken classic cocktails and turned them on their heads, with our takes on the Moscow Mule, the margarita, and the martini. That translates into four cocktails worth tasting over and over again: The Pistachio Mule, The New Dirty, The New Dirty (a dirty Martini, but with options), The Angry Cucumber (our take on a margarita), and the White Espresso Martini, a drink so potent and so flavorful that it can bring down the likes of a famous football tight end.

“I’m not going to lie, the drink is pretty darn cool,” says Strawn. “The first person I tested it out on was while I was doing a hotel opening, and Rob Gronkowski drank 10 of them. He was drunk and wired, all at the same time. And he’s 6’6,” so that’s a big baby to control.”

While Strawn is tight-lipped on how many new creative cocktails will hit the menu and when exactly it will be official, it’s been a long time coming. Plans were in place to roll out the cocktails in March of 2020, but the world had other plans.

“We did do another menu and got it printed and got it ready to go,” says Strawn. “And then COVID happened, unfortunately. And that was literally right before COVID.” And when the pandemic happened, restaurants and bars shut down, and so did Lazy Point. As the City reopened, so did Lazy Point, with just two days a week, Fridays and Saturdays.

“So, when Gunther and I started reopening the bar again, we started off with, ‘Oh, we're just going to start off with two days,’” remembers Strawn. “So it was just going to be Friday and Saturday, and then we’d slowly build back up.”

While the build-up happened, Friday and Saturday remained favorite days for locals to imbibe in creative birthday cocktails at Lazy Point. “If you haven’t been there on a Friday or Saturday night, it’s crazy in there,” says Strawn. “Food and cocktails are important, but they’re secondary to what the whole vibe is.”

And that vibe, as Strawn labels it, is creative, from-scratch craft cocktails fit for celebrating any birthday or special occasion—or just another day having fun in the city that never sleeps.

That extra time during the pandemic helped creative juices flow in our cocktails, so to speak, and Strawn predicts what started with three new cocktails has grown to four, and he’s hoping to add four more to the menu. There are talks of an adult alcoholic snow cone with gin (the “Bramble”) and plenty of caffeine-infused drinks to keep the party popping all night.

But these creative cocktails aren’t just fun to drink; they’re beautiful to look at, too. The White Espresso Martini—the one we mentioned Gronk enjoyed so much that 10 weren’t enough—comes out 100% white with a black espresso sugar rim. Our take on the margarita, the Angry Cucumber, has a kick, with a Chipotle reduction. And our new take on the dirty martini? It comes with options: sure, you could go with olives, but mozzarella balls, pickled pearl onions, chilis, cornichons, and more are also available for the customer to choose from.

Is there such a thing as too many good choices when it comes to creative birthday cocktails? At Lazy Point, we have something for everyone.
